This application is part of a research project initiated by the Viral Spaces research group viral.media.mit.edu at the MIT Media Lab media.mit.edu.

Airmobs is simple to use, does not require any special skill or knowledge in order to share an internet connection or in order to connect to a shared connection. Users just push a button to connect to Airmobs WiFi network provided by other users of the community. Don't forget to go to [menu] > Settings and adjust how much data you are willing to share !

Airmobs works securely in the background and shares automatically parts of your data plan that you are not using and you gains virtual community credit. Airmobs users can use their community credit to access the internet when they are out-of-coverage, when their mobile bandwidth is too slow or when roaming and data service is expensive. In this way you are not loosing the surplus data in your data plan at the end of the month and can get the important email out when you are in holiday and roaming.

Airmobs is fun and simple to use with friends and family. When they need a connection simply press share and others can press connect. You still get to keep the community credit from sharing with friends and family. It is also very simple since you don't need to know or remember passwords and perform network setup.

Airmobs makes sure that others are not maxing out your plan or draining you battery, you setup your preferences once and Airmobs takes care for all the rest. Airmobs uses the built-in capability of the mobile phone to share internet connection securely and does not require rooting or other risky privileges.

Airmobs is based on the P2P (Peer 2 Peer) principle 'You Give You Shall Receive', and 'If you give more you will receive more'. Just like file sharing systems such as BitTorrent providing a resource to the community entitles you to use this resource when you need.

Airmobs gives higher priority to community members with good community credit score, these users will enjoy longer periods of internet connection. To increase your credit score you can make sure Airmobs runs in the background and activate the sharing manually from time to time.
