Use the tactics mode in combat to pause the game and coordinate the actions of your team without time pressure. You can paralyze your enemies with Uplink or Mind Control. If your skills are high enough, you can even trick them into attacking each other.

Navigation keys, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9: Move selector, use action menu
Navigation key centre, 5: action key
Right softkey: Open menu, cancel, deny
